On A Six Pence – football art and readers’ offer!

Here at PNIG, we love football and we love art. As you’ve seen with my piece on Pirlo, my hook-up with the great people at The Illustrated Game, and my recent piece on World Cup photographer Ryu Voelkel, the beatuiful game really can be the beautiful game in the hands of some people.

I’m delighted to annouce that PNIG has been able to link up with the very talented Johnny Joannou, the creative brilliance behind On A Six Pence, to offer PNIG readers a discount on his fantastic renderings of teams and sporting events.

Johnny was inspired by traditional football wall-charts. He told PNIG: “I wanted to present information on clubs in an informative and aesthetic way. By using the  structure of periodic-tables, I have been able  able to categorise and arrange key metrics and then use an appropriate colour palette to reflect the history of the club.” The battle to find all the information he needs can be a tough one: “Club website data on players is generally poor. Fans have helped find accurate and accessible data, although Swansea stats have been impossible to find ( looking for all-time, all-competition appearances and goals!).”

Many of the prints available at On A Six Pence are for larger clubs, but Johnny has also created a number of other prints simply because someone has asked nicely. The prints can be personalised and commissions are accepted. He can even add an additional cell to the print with the name of their choice.

The prints have featured in a number of football websites and Johnny’s work was also selected in the Guardian’s focus on sport art called ‘Beautiful Games’. Grahame Le Saux and Micah Hyde are also big fans and told Johnny it was a privilege to be included.

Here at PNIG, we think you’ll agree that these prints are a beautiful, unusual way to look at football.

Readers of PNIG can go to On A Six Pence’s online store and enter the offer code PNIG to get free postage and packaging. That’s roughly £5-£9 off just for reading this and entering PNIG.

I hope you take advantage of this and support Johnny in his endeavours. He will be taking his stuff on the road during the World Cup to art fairs and shops as well.
